1) Aim and Objectives
To enable pharmacy students to continue their education during the covid-19 national lockdown using digital online learning platforms and tools. Another objective is to transform the traditional classroom teaching into an active methodology centered on learners.
2) Activities (what will you do to change your teaching?);
Classes were created on google classroom and learners invited to participate. The following plan is used for every lecture :
Pre-lecture activities : watching videos on youtube (videos may be chosen by professor or by students), filling assignments on prerequisite knowledge, preparing the glossary of technical terms that will be used in the lecture, …
Lecture : video lectures sent by professor
Post-lecture activities : assignments (cases, problems, …), brainstorming activities on certain questions (tricider), quizes, further readings (articles, guidelines, …), briefings and tables using google docs
3) Main Results (what will the project produce? New resources? New methods?);
All the activities conducted will provide multiple resources for the professor and the learners: Glossary, videos (students are creating some of these videos), tables, mindmaps, …
The course uses active learning methodology in a virtual environment. Students are encouraged to search for info themselves and to use digital tools to present these info to their colleagues in an innovative way. A lot of these activities involve teamwork and strict deadlines. The professor provides feedback for very activity and encourages discussion within the virtual classroom on some key points.
4) Expected Impact (how will the project change the way you teach?);
This work is dramatically changing my teaching methodology and it is offering me a great opportunity for self professional development as well as to reflect on my teaching practice. I used to do mainly a traditional teaching and use some multimedia material in my course. My digital literacy in education began with digihealth project (an erasmus plus project) and is continuing as I discover more and more ICT tools that may be used in this course.
The work is very structured, it is an active learning where students collect information, work on documents and materials and create resources. I can tell from students’ participation how much they are interested and invested in their learning. They respect deadlines, always do their work on time and in a very good way and they even come up with new materials and share with the class other articles they read or experiences they had during their training.
Finally, the benefit was shared with colleagues in my institution as I prepared some tutorials for my colleagues on some digital tools and assisted them in using the tools they chose to implement in their courses.
